Controversial heading but let me tell you it is very true. I know this based on working for 7 years as a venue finding specialist in Dublin city centre. I often get requests to book a function room or for a venue hire in Dublin for the likes of a 30th birthday party or 40th birthday party.
I walk through all the details of the enquiry checking off the most important aspects for the client, key things such as is there a private room, has the venue a late bar, what is the venue capacity, is there a venue hire, really the usual things to help narrow down to the most suitable options.
But here’s the thing as soon as I am left to present with two to three venue options to a client then anything from the north side of the river is nearly always dropped at this point. Being from the country side myself I find this hard to believe as I have lived and partied North and South side of the river and as the saying goes "like my children I love them all".
Of course, I get that when you have venues in and around Grafton street, Dawson street and Leeson street they tend to be the most popular venues. But knowing what I know now about the social scene on the North side of the river, I would appeal to people to give the North side a go for their special night and you will be able to find some of the best function rooms and buzzing venues to hire. Case in point being Capel street, this vibrant street has to be one of the busiest streets for parties and group get togethers in Dublin as it stands. You have everything from niche restaurants serving anything from Vietnamese food to healthy eating, Karaoke bars, top bar venues.
Look around the other North city streets and you have the Harbourmaster in the Ifsc, the boars head, T.P Smyths, one of the The body tonic venues wigwam, the amazingly popular Pantibar venue to the top craft beer venue the black sheep.
Don't forget the hugely popular tourist venue that is the church bar & Restaurant on Mary street. If the north side is good enough for tourists that says it all. Where else in Dublin has as good a sun trap for groups looking for summer barbeque parties. I can’t write this and not include the amazingly popular venue Token which is taken Dublin 7 by storm, it’s a restaurant, bar, retro arcade, pinball parlour and a top event space with over 32 machines and an extensive menu for all tastes but really its high-end fast food.
I’ll finish with this, today alone we have sent three clients down to Adelphi bar & Restaurant on Abbey street North city Dublin, I know very well that Adelphi is the perfect function room for hire but it really took persuading to get the people having their birthdays to view this venue. But guess what; they all booked. They told me as soon as they walked in the door and seen this ultra-cool venue with its amazing interior and space and met the gem of an owner Tony along with his beautiful assistant Sergio they were literally done. Book me in please
Anyway’s hope you enjoyed the read, more to follow next week, this is the part where I mention my own company and all that but ill try be original and leave it at that.
